Shameless self promotion alert, but I completely forgot that this song even existed. My buddy Sean and I recorded this song during the summer of 2007 in my apartment. He laid down a bunch of guitar tracks and it was my job to cut them up and try to make it all sound like something good, then add some quick programmed drums and my vocals. I kind of quit and settled half way... there's no bass drum haha and actually there's no bass guitar either but I still really like the way it came out, sure the recording/mix job was shitty and rushed, but I think it was a pretty solid track for one days work.

Here ya go, a buddy of mine had requested that I post some Glass Casket up here on the Munk. I decided to do him one better and found the band that would eventually turn into Glass Casket after the release of this 2002 demo. They were called Gadrel and they kicked some serious ass. This 5 song assault touches mainly on the deathy/metalcore bases while still hinting at some of the technical/experimental edge that they were known for after the name change. This is heavy heavy and loaded with lots of sick breakdowns and weedly-weedly guitar work. Its one very cool and often overlooked piece of brutal metalcore. Too bad there was no album cover or even a logo for this release... either way, enjoy.

I got really souped about this band, In The Midst of Lions, after hearing their 3rd album, 2011's 'Shadows'. That release was an ultra thick, technical melodic deathcore gem. So I picked up their first album the other day and was not let down at all. This is deathcore with some real substance for sure folks. Lots of intense breakdowns and techy guitar noodling. Sure it runs together and becomes a little repetitive after a while but this is a short, energy packed, pit ensuing beast that is well worth the download.

I'm not going to lie, I'm feeling mighty lazy tonight. Its been a long week at work and I really dont feel like looking through the wall for something obscure and crazy to post today. So instead, I chose to give in to the first thing that popped up on random in the ITunes. I found out about WBCC in 2006/07 after one of my old bands played a show with them down in Asbury Park. I found it to be a simplistic and very real approach to deathcore, with as much influence on the death as there was the core. They didn't play breakdowns for 25 minutes and there was a lot of quality riffage happening, the vocalist had a great range about him and the songs flowed very well. And so fucking what if they like god and angels and all that shit? If the music is decent thats all that really matters to me. Fans of Winter Solstice and On Broken Wings will appreciate this quickie of an album.

Talk about some really rare shit, I think the original pressing of this (7inch?) was limited to something like 100 copies. Pretty cool when you're talking about a band that went on to become the mighty All Shall Perish (same basic line up here as on "Hate, Malice, Revenge" by the way). This EP/demo contains 3 raw ass "studio" tracks and 2 live songs and it's nearly impossible to track down now a days. Luckily I was an active member of mp3.com back in like 2000/01 so I've got you guys covered hahaha. This is a much more simplistic and straightforward death metal/deathcore approach than the before mentioned "Hate, Malice, Revenge" album which was definitely more sparkly and technical. This is still a fun listen for fans of really raw early deathcore/death metal, enjoy.

This is a young tech deathy band out of California. Insane speed, tons of solid technical riffage done Cryptopsy style, and some audible bass, hurrah. My one complaint is the mid range core-ish influence in the vocals that becomes very repetitive and searing after a few songs. Maybe its just me, maybe its just in the mix, who knows. Either way, I have a feeling that these guys may just become one of the genre's elite forces.

This is definitely one worth checking out for yourselves.

These 2 songs were recorded shortly after the 'Embrace the Angel' sessions and was released on Red Dawn Records. December AE is probably one of my favorite bands of all time, and I'm happy to be sharing this rarity with you guys. True, street raised hardcore with a thick death metal accent. Punishing breakdowns and memorable riffs. Man, these guys were a fucking wrecking crew live. This is absolutely essential to fans of early 'deathcore'.

There was definitely a short period in my life in the early 00's when I thought that track 3 'The Eternal Gates Of Hell' was the heaviest damn song ever to be recorded on this planet. Melodic, sorta Swedish riffage, a barrage of thick walled low tuned breakdowns and a very strong low/high core vocalist. It's been a while since I've spun this album but it has aged very well.

Abnormality is a sick unsigned band from Massachusetts. This 3 song EP is their debut offering and a strong one at that. Thick, punishing guitars show great songwriting promise. It's got a lot of meatballin' chug-chugging going on, and lots of down tuned tremolos. An audible bass player, which is always nice, and some solid techy drums keep things at an interesting pace. I've got to commend vocalist Mallika on a job well done, she is fucking awesome and shows some great range. I think you can also download them for RockBand or some shit too... Get on it.

Some ultra tight knit symphonic, progressive, blackened technical-deathcore from Belarus, true story. This album is definitely growing on me quickly, constant blistering transitions, sharp, techy noodling, strong low range barking vocals with the occasional highs layered on there. The keys/symphonic nonsense never become a chore, in fact its use is damn perfect. And come on, fuck, that is some sick cover art right there! For fans of The Faceless and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
