This is the bands first full length release and they achieved a thick and blistering sound (for the day..). Loads of thrashy overtones going on, constantly melding with ferocious guitar solos with a very large and epic vibe overall.

My buddy became friends with the bands ex vocalist, Gary, by random chance and turned me on to them with a few CD-R's. Nothing really ground breaking here but its still a good healthy does of obscure metal and a damn strong release for their debut.

Fuck! This is some absolutely amazing and relatively unknown stuff from Finland circa 1991. So much energy comes across here! The lead guitarist is on some other shit and goes about making his own rules for alot of this release. From jazzed up groovy death metal influenced punching to absurd thrashing shouts and twists this is some really impressive stuff for the time. Pure chaos in song structure my friends. This godly 10 minute 3 track chunk is sure to leave a bruise on even the most seasoned obscure metal worshipping veteran.

Sometimes bargain bins do hold the occasional hidden gems. The last trip to my favorite record store yielded this blistering 7 song digi from Indiana's Exesion. Dont let the abstract cover art and shitty album title fool you. These are fast, well produced songs, with above average and slightly technical riffage, solid drumming and a beasty, well ranged, vocalist. This shit has a ton of potential but unfortunately it looks like this is the bands only release, even though the metallum has them listed as still 'active'. This is worth checking out for those in need of a death fueled thrashing spin kick from out of fucking nowhere.

This is definitely some way out there, mythical, punishing black metal from Austin, Texas. Averse Sefira mixes a fast and cold, classic style of black metal with a thrashing/death metal edge before dwelling into the more dark and droning, slower paced slabs of atmospheric chaos occasionally. The vocals stay in the mid to high range yells with some reverberating distortion effects. Certain riffs and the overall production remind me a bit of 1349 on this cd, so there's that. This is a really solid hunk of obscure black metal for ya to chew on for about an hour. Fans of 1349, older Behemoth and Myrkskog will enjoy.

This is some aggressive shit for 1987! The blistering speeds are constant, loads vicious riffs and solos along with all of that early thrash attitude you know you love. This is unrelenting and pioneering beer fueled thrash metal from Portland Oregon that you should really get down on. I'm actually kinda bummed that I only recently heard this shit. Thrash!

Not necessarily my favorite Cryptic Slaughter album but I was in the mood all day and this was the first one I grabbed. Love the tripped out cover art on this album. The music is well, raw. A very poor production here but thats just part of its charm. Loads of driving bass grooves and slightly distorted and very angry vocals. A constant head bobber. Thrash on.

Norwegian blackened thrash metal? Yes please. This is really awesome stuff, a very dark and purely neck breaking black/thrash fusion album. You should also know that these guys are still creating some really crushing music! Their last album to date was 2007's 'Fields of Rot' and it kicked my ass for sure. Oh, and they use strippers in their live shows. Excellent.

So over the last few days I've found myself listening not to hours of dirty, old school death and black metal but to albums lost in my collection that I haven't given much love to, see yesterday's post about Christian Muezner's technical, progressive genius. I'm still kicking myself for not listening to that album when it came out back in April. Anyway, it somehow brings me to Cali's Warbringer and their debut 'War Without End'. It was a solid thrash album with decent grooves, riffs and vocals, nothing above and beyond but not nearly as bad as the Toxik Society cd I tried listening to yesterday. My biggest complaint is the lack of audible bass guitar which is, in my opinion, the backbone to any great thrash band, none the less fans of the genre will get down on this one for sure, and to Warbringer's defense, their 2011 release 'Worlds Torn Asunder' was much better.

Although their identities are kept secret, it is rumored that most members are part of the medical themed death metal outfit Impaled. This album drops tomorrow and is yet another quality, high energy release from Tank Crimes.

Alcoholator is fast booze fueled thrash from Canada. Fans of the new Warbringer and Havok albums could really get down with the vibes here, although this album does not rank even close to those gems. Overall this is a solid debut release on which they can only improve on. I checked them out initially on the name alone and I think you should too. Cheers.

Speaking of great albums... meet fuckin HAVOK. These kids are nasty with it! Crazy energy, speed and power, solid thrashy riffs that really span the entire spectrum from early Bay Area shit to the mid 90's East Coast scene (you can really tell these guys loved Anthrax growing up...) Check this one out, this is going to do more than hold you over until the new Municipal Waste drops late next year.
