Fuck yea, I love that they took the sample from the original version of 'Entombed In Butchered Bodies' to start this one off. Its pretty solid shit, the song sounds very similar to the jams on 'Maniacal Miscreation' they definitely didn't stray from the formula too much. I've already been sold on this band for quite some time now, they seem to be a breath of fresh air in the sometimes over crowded brutal death market. Bree bree.

A highly melodic and emotional EP from Ohio's, Mouth of the Architect. I originally purchased this album, fresh from the used bin, solely based on the cover art alone. Previously unaware of the band, I was pleased to find that the material inside was just as intricate, deep and enjoyable. Get ready to be lost in a few long songs that will entrance the mind and scramble your thoughts.. but, fear not, you're sure to snap out of your trip about mid way through the last track, when you begin to curiously sing along. Thinking you're drifting deeper still into your own internal insanity, you then suddenly realize... "oh shit, they've covered a god damn Peter Gabriel song". Anyway, The Violence Beneath is packed with impressive song writing and production, varied vocal styles, folk tendencies and shit tons of encasing atmosphere. Get on this one and support these guys when possible.

Dont let the goofy band name/logo and boring album cover fool you, this is an above average technical death metal release from a band hailing from California. They seem to touch on alot of core influence pretty often, most especially in the vocal department. Impressive drumming, solid song writing and a constant blitz of gut wrenching song structure. This is absolutely an band/album worth checking out.

I think I may have more respect for Candiria than I do for pretty much 90% of the other bands that I listen to. Ok, so that may be a bit of a stretch but still, without these guys I dont think I'd be as into the obscure metal scene as I am. I swear I was raised on the street driven, attitude plenty, atmospheric, abstract assault that is Candiria's early recordings. These guys were never given a solid chance by most, go ahead, try to find a Metal Archives page for them. Not metal enough? Ha! These guys fired on all "metal" cylinders constantly, from death metalling growls to swift hardcore flavored beatdowns to melodic jazz infused bass driving chaos to grindcore influenced blasts. Just take a listen, for first timers I can guarantee a future download of another album. For those more experienced with the band already, you should know that this is their first demo and it contains a few tracks that went on to be re-recorded for 'Process of Self Development'. I'll be sure to share that gem with you all soon, in the mean time check out this post as well as... er um, well, this post.

Obscura is primed and ready to drop another release on the metal world already, only this time it comes in the form of a compilation containing demos from 2003/2006 as well as unreleased tracks from the 'Omnivium' sessions in 2011. Man, that Christian Muenzner is one busy dude. This is the first thing they've leaked so far from those 2011 tracks. Here we have a pretty sweet cover of a great Death song from their 1998 album 'The Sound of Perseverance'. The track quality is only 256kbs for now, if I can find a better one at some point before the album drops, I'll try to update the post. Enjoy this shit, and please guys, buy this album when it comes out. Actually, make it a point to buy a lot of CDs this year if you can. Some of these bands really deserve it.

Fuck! This is some absolutely amazing and relatively unknown stuff from Finland circa 1991. So much energy comes across here! The lead guitarist is on some other shit and goes about making his own rules for alot of this release. From jazzed up groovy death metal influenced punching to absurd thrashing shouts and twists this is some really impressive stuff for the time. Pure chaos in song structure my friends. This godly 10 minute 3 track chunk is sure to leave a bruise on even the most seasoned obscure metal worshipping veteran.

Sometimes bargain bins do hold the occasional hidden gems. The last trip to my favorite record store yielded this blistering 7 song digi from Indiana's Exesion. Dont let the abstract cover art and shitty album title fool you. These are fast, well produced songs, with above average and slightly technical riffage, solid drumming and a beasty, well ranged, vocalist. This shit has a ton of potential but unfortunately it looks like this is the bands only release, even though the metallum has them listed as still 'active'. This is worth checking out for those in need of a death fueled thrashing spin kick from out of fucking nowhere.

Fuuuck. Man, I can't believe it took me so long to check this album out. And what a bitch it was to track down too! It was all worth it though, this one screams of outright brutality and violence right from the get go. Aggressive, gut churning songs pile on one after the other in an all out attack of beautifully mastered brutal death metal. Dark, evil chants, an absolutely explosive double bass heavy drummer and a signature punishing grinding rhythm that seems to be found over and over again. Check this one out, its a fucking monster.

Some truly absurdly heavy and genre bending shit for 1993. This is Dying Fetus in their most pure and early form before all the bullshit and controversy that would follow. This demo features John Gallagher on the drums and vocals as well as guitar solos, some very impressive stuff indeed. The sound quality here is pretty damn good and the song writing is nothing but quality brutality and is way ahead of its time. If nothing else, you should check this out just for the demo version of 'Grotesque Impalement' because it fucking destroys. Whatever your current stand is on Dying Fetus, you have got to have respect for this one. This is a very strong 6 songs and the sound portrayed here is still trying to be imitated by new bands.

This violent little slab of death is the first from these heavy hitting California natives. Tons of production here folks, this is one clean death metal cd. Lots of bass driven riffs, off timing technical mayhem, a sludgy breakdown or 2 and solid drumming with alot of tight, blasting stabs. The vocal style here is dominated by a low guttural sewage gurgle with the occasional mid range burst and high shriek. I could see fans of the early Abacinate stuff getting down with this, its just a little less groovy than them but just as brutal in its own way. I think this is a sick little EP that you should take out for a spin.

This is a young tech deathy band out of California. Insane speed, tons of solid technical riffage done Cryptopsy style, and some audible bass, hurrah. My one complaint is the mid range core-ish influence in the vocals that becomes very repetitive and searing after a few songs. Maybe its just me, maybe its just in the mix, who knows. Either way, I have a feeling that these guys may just become one of the genre's elite forces.
This is definitely one worth checking out for yourselves.
